SPACE Grant Information

Posted Wednesday October 18, 2023

Through our SPACE grant, we have started the process of becoming more aware, involved, and prepared for crisis emergencies in relation to suicide. With September being suicide awareness month, I wanted to have a visual representation of the members who have been affected in our community by suicide, and start the conversation about awareness, prevention and how to respond. Each site will have a QR code that has only five questions to ask our community basic information on the impact of suicide within their lives, and starting this month we will be placing pinwheels on the front lawn at 5th street. As we start the new process of becoming a trauma informed site, implementing emergency binders at each site, and introducing two new social and emotional learning (SEL) and educational AmeriCorps members to each location, I hope to increase our community outreach in order to make our sites a safer place. Below are several free resources I have found throughout my research and what I plan on adding to our community resource list that is shared with parents. As a community resource, for the rest of the year, we will be providing free community Mental Health First Aid Training (MHFT), site specific trauma informed awareness, and certifying our Unit Directors on the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS). Below this article are several websites that outline this process and can provide additional information on how you, as a member of the BGClub Manhattan community, can become more aware of these topics.
